A Fourth of July Message from VFRW President

This Independence Day, as our nation marks America’s 250th anniversary, we celebrate more than our founding. We honor the enduring idea that changed history. The Declaration of Independence affirmed that our rights come from our Creator, not government, and that government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed. These principles of liberty, equality, and individual rights continue to guide our nation and inspire those who value freedom.

Our Founders knew that liberty endures only when each generation chooses to protect it. During America’s Bicentennial, President Gerald Ford reminded us that “The American adventure has been sustained by sacrifice and the willingness to stick to it and see it through.” His words still ring true. Freedom depends not only on the principles we believe in, but on the character and commitment of those who defend them.

As Republican women, we are part of that ongoing story. Through informed citizenship, civic engagement, community service, and participation in the political process, we honor our Founders by carrying forward the responsibilities of self-government.

Here in Virginia, we share a special connection to our nation’s founding. From Jamestown and Williamsburg to the leadership of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Henry, our Commonwealth helped shape the principles that define our country. As we mark this 250th anniversary, may we take pride in that legacy and renew our commitment to preserving the freedoms secured for us.

On behalf of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women, I wish you and your family a safe and meaningful Fourth of July.

Happy Independence Day, and may God bless the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.
